Smart Image Alt Text is the simple, smart solution for a more accessible and search engine-friendly website.
Manually adding alt text to every image is a tedious task, and often, it’s overlooked. Our plugin solves this problem by automating the process, ensuring every image has descriptive alt text from the moment it’s uploaded. This small change has a huge impact on your site’s SEO, helping search engines understand your content, and on accessibility, making your site usable for visitors who rely on screen readers.
The plugin is designed to be as hands-off as possible. Just install, activate, and let it do the work in the background. It’s perfect for bloggers, e-commerce stores, and anyone who wants to improve their site without the hassle.
When you upload an image to your WordPress Media Library, Smart Image Alt Text runs a quick, intelligent check:
Check for Existing Alt Text: The plugin first checks if you’ve already provided alt text. If the field is not empty, the plugin does nothing, preserving your manual input.
Use the Post Title: If the alt text field is empty, the plugin looks for a descriptive title. If the image is attached to a post, it will use the post’s title as the alt text.
Use the Filename as a Fallback: If a post title isn’t available, the plugin falls back to the image filename. It automatically cleans up the filename by replacing dashes and underscores with spaces to create a natural, readable sentence (e.g., my-cool-image_2024.jpg becomes “My cool image 2024”).
100% Automatic: No configuration needed. Install it, and it works.
Intelligent Logic: Prioritizes post titles for better context, then uses filenames as a reliable fallback.
Improves SEO: Helps search engines index and understand your images, which can boost your rankings.
Enhances Accessibility: Provides descriptive text for screen readers, making your content available to all users.
Super Lightweight: Built with clean, optimized code that won’t slow down your website.
WordPress.org Standards: Developed to be fully compliant with WordPress coding and security standards.
Translation Ready: The plugin uses a text domain, making it ready for translation into any language.
